workshop entitled "Medical Endoscopes"

Sponsored by The Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department, Professor Dr. Wisam Kazem Hamdan,

a specialized workshop entitled "Medical Endoscopes" was held.

Presented by Engineer (Walid Khalid Hashem) and Engineer (Mustafa Rasheed), and Engineer (Ibrahim Nabil) - Biomedical Engineering from Al-Itqan Medical Devices Company, on Thursday, the 15th of February 2024, at 9:30 AM in Al-Quds Hall in the department.

The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of both the esteemed scientific and administrative assistants, the teaching staff, department students, and a number of honorable visitors.

The workshop addressed the role of medical endoscopes, which are flexible tubes with a bendable end containing a camera, used by doctors to examine various parts of the human body through natural openings without the need for surgical incisions in the skin. Medical endoscopes can be used to examine the digestive system and other organs depending on the patient's condition and the location of the surgical procedure.

The workshop included a detailed explanation of the operation methods and functions of several advanced types of endoscopes, their usage methods, and their essential role in improving surgical procedures in terms of time, risk avoidance, complications prevention, and continuous patient data retention.

The role of endoscopes is crucial as they are flexible and provide a source of illumination with a small camera, allowing doctors to obtain a good view of the lining of the digestive tract. Doctors can observe areas of irritation, ulcers, inflammation, and abnormal tissue growth. Some endoscopes have probes at their ends for imaging with echo planar imaging. The images obtained from these probes may show details that echo planar imaging probes outside the skin cannot display.

Mr. Head of the Department emphasized that the workshop, in addition to its specialized importance, also confirms the university's and the department's direction in linking the department's outputs with the job market, as the lecturers are graduates of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Technology. This confirms the importance of this specialization in both the public and private sectors.

The workshop concluded with honoring the lecturers by  Ph. Dr. Jannan Star Khushan - the scientific assistant of the Biomedical Engineering Department, who expressed her gratitude to the engineers for conducting the specialized workshop and to all the participants in organizing the workshop from the organizing team and the attending students.
