Ph.Dr.saad mahmood obtains the patent tagged "design of a flexible nano-artificial heart for permanent use"

Written by

Prof. Dr. Saad Mahmoud Ali, The Head of  Biomechanics Branch in Biomedical engineering Department , obtained the patent entitled “Design of a Soft Nano-Artificial Heart for Permanent Use.”

Where the patent focused on the development, design, modeling and analysis of a new generation of flexible artificial hearts, at low cost, easily operable, real size, low energy consumption, and high durability to replace the living heart of the patient permanently and not for a limited time as current artificial hearts work. Numerical simulations and investigations were carried out using SOLIDWORKS 17 and ANSYS 15.7 design software.

Multi-Physics Structural Analytical Systems, Fluent Fluid Flow Analysis (CFX) and (CFD) systems to determine the dynamic response of blood and compressed air on the elastic performance of the heart during active blood flow cycles. Biomechanical modeling and performance analysis of the flexible artificial heart were carried out using finite element software and ANSYS R18.0 software. Design Expert 11.0 software and Response Surface Technology (RSM) were also used to validate and improve the biomechanical performance of the newly designed flexible core. The simulation results showed that during the maximum absolute pressure applied to the ventricles and air pressure chambers, the heart's performance is completely safe, as shown by the animated graphs. The results also showed that the stress energy, total deformation, maximum main elastic stress, stress-fatigue safety modulus and fatigue life reached their optimal values.
