The Department held a workshop on how to apply the Bologna track in education
Written by عضو ارتباطUnder the guidance of the Head of the of Biomedical Engineering Department , Prof. Dr. Wissam Kazem Hamdan, the Department held a workshop on how to apply the Bologna track
in education for the academic year 2023-2024, at Al-Quds Hall in the department.
The scientific assistant, Ph.Dr. Hussein Jamil Mutashar, and in the presence of the heads of the branches, the teachers and the employees of the department
The workshop dealt with the foundations of the Bologna track, how to implement it, adhere to it, and apply it during the next academic year 2024.
Higher education systems are essential to the development of all sectors of a country's economy. In Iraq, it is necessary to raise education standards and better match academia with the needs of the labor market. In this conference, the different dimensions of the modernization and development of higher education systems in Iraqi universities were explored.
The student must be given a major role in this improvement process. The Bologna Project is an intergovernmental process aimed at improving higher education, which to date involves 49 European countries and a number of European organizations. The Bologna project provides a platform for students to engage in the development of their studies. It makes qualifications in higher education similar in their certificates and the information available in them, and facilitates the path of comparison in university degrees in the European Union countries, and enables the adoption of similar standards in quality and helps higher education in student employment and global competition.
The goal of working in the Bologna project means working actively to improve the education system with the status of the student and consolidate the reputation of universities and the Iraqi educational system internationally and improve the quality of education and reduce the gap between the education sector and the labor market and design new curricula that meet the needs of the market and provide job opportunities for graduates and learning may be centered around the student with The feature of international cooperation and the movement of students between universities and countries that adopt the Bologna process and the establishment of a system of credits such as the European system for the transfer of credits facilitates the process of transferring students between universities. We believe that students should be given a major role in contributing to fundamental changes and the future of their society and country.

A lecture entitled "Occupational Safety in Laboratories"
Written by عضو ارتباطThe biomedical engineering department hold a lecture entitled "Occupational Safety in Laboratories"
The Department held an awareness lecture for the students and employees of the department, which was delivered by Ph.Dr. Enas Saad and the Asst.Lect . Farah Hashem
At Al-Quds Hall in the presence of students and department staff
The lecture included a definition of the risks (biological and chemical) present in laboratories, so students need to understand the risks of these materials, methods of work and personal safety in the laboratory.
The good management of work in laboratories is the sure guarantee for the safety of working conditions, and this management always requires the cleaning of any scattered chemical substance, the disposal of the remnants of broken glass, and the rearrangement of all packages and devices upon completion of use. The lecture also clarified safety precautions from the dangers of chemicals and biological pollutants. At the end of the lecture, the lecturers explained through their presentation of safety and security symbols in laboratories, and what is the first aid for wounds and burns if the laboratory was exposed to them.

A research titled: Improving and removing kinetic distortions in the optical brain signals by hybridizing and merging the two wave methods and the enhanced wave correlation.
In the Swiss journal (Sensors ISSN: 1424-8220) affiliated with the MDPI publishing house, with an impact factor of 3.847, and classified within the Scopus index Q1 database, as part of the requirements for an international doctoral degree within Scopus repositories.
Where did the research take place
Near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a non-invasive optical neuroimaging technique that allows participants to move relatively freely. However, head movements often cause motions of the electrodes relative to the head, which introduce motion distortions in the measured signal. Here, we propose an improved algorithmic approach to correct those kinematic distortions that combines wave-based and correlation-signal optimization (WCBSI). We compare the accuracy of MA correction of its kinematic distortions with multiple established correction approaches (linear interpolation, spline-Savitzky-Golay filter, principal component analysis, target principal component analysis, locally weighted strong gradient smoothing filter, wavelet filter, and correlation-based signal optimization). ). Therefore, we measured brain activity in 20 participants performing a task of moving their hands on a table and moving their heads simultaneously to produce motor abnormalities of different levels of severity. In order to obtain the 'true cue' of brain activation, we added a condition in which the hand-moving task was performed on a table only. We compared the distortion correction performance between the algorithms on four predefined metrics (R, RMSE, MAPE, and AUC) and ranked the performance. The proposed WCBSI algorithm was the only one that outperformed the mean (p < 0.001), and had the highest probability of being the best-ranked algorithm (probability 78.8%). Together, our results indicate that among all the algorithms tested, the proposed WCBSI approach performed consistently well across all scales.
