The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology held a workshop entitled

"Laboratory Work Guide according to Iraqi Standards for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research" on Sunday, February 25th, 2024, at 10:00 PM in the Al-Quds Hall.

Chaired by the Scientific Assistant Professor Dr. Janan Star, the workshop was attended by the laboratory quality manager, Dr. Farah Hameed, and laboratory staff and supervisors.

The workshop focused on organizing the work context and the procedures according to the ministerial guidance work guide, highlighting the problems faced by laboratory supervisors and staff, addressing them, and discussing the comprehensive improvement plan for laboratories. This is due to the role they play in delivering information effectively and solidifying it in students' minds, as well as providing students with laboratory experiments to gain experience and skills, familiarizing them with equipment, and introducing them to some of the materials used.

Additionally, the workshop discussed self-assessment reports, specialized training courses, and laboratory emergency plans aimed at serving students and enhancing the educational level.

# Talents of Biomedical Engineering Students

Student (Qamar Alzaman Ghassan) participated from the Department of Biomedical Engineering / Fifth Stage

in an Iraqi heritage evening honoring the artist of the generations Farouk Hilal under the leadership of Maestro Alaa Majid on Sunday, February 25th. In her talent, she played the Santur, which is an Iraqi Babylonian instrument representing Iraqi civilization. It's worth noting that the student is a Santur player, which is an ancient Babylonian instrument.

It is worth mentioning that the student Qamar Alzaman:
?- Holds a diploma in music from the School of Music and Ballet.
?- Holds a certificate in managing artistic projects from the Kutaa Cairo Institute.
?- Member of the National Iraqi Music Heritage Ensemble, the Sumerians Ensemble, and the Iraqi Here Team.
?- Member of the Art for Peace Center by Maestro Karim Wissam 2016-2017.
?- Represented Iraq with a solo performance as the first Iraqi female player on the stage of UNESCO headquarters in the French capital Paris during the celebration of Iraq's National Day and its 75th anniversary of joining UNESCO.

In the name of the President of the Technological University and the respected Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department, a workshop was held titled:

"Rules of Professional Conduct and Service Law for Employees"

Delivered by:

Dr. Hussein Jameel Muttashar, Administrative Assistant, and Ms. Hiba Raad Abdul Ahad, Assistant Director.

Date: Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 12:00 PM, in Al-Quds Hall.

The workshop was attended by department faculty and staff members.

The workshop covered several key topics, including the fact that an employee's professional life is governed by a set of legal rules. Compliance with these rules can benefit the employee, while non-compliance can lead to harm, either due to ignorance or intentional disregard.

The scientific assistant reviewed the Law of Discipline for State Employees and the Public Sector for the year 1991 and the subsequent changes, particularly those introduced by the Integrity Commission in 2006. These changes have legal implications that could harm employees if they are unaware of them. They may lead to dismissal from employment or violations of criminal laws, resulting in penalties such as imprisonment or confiscation of assets. The workshop also addressed how employees can protect themselves from such penalties and challenge disciplinary decisions.

Furthermore, the workshop discussed common disciplinary actions in the workplace, including warnings, reprimands, salary deductions, demotions, termination, and isolation. The reasons for these disciplinary actions and their consequences were thoroughly explained, with participants engaging in discussions and having their queries addressed.

Associate Professor Saad Mahmoud Ali, Head of the Biomechanical Engineering Department at the Technological University,

participated in the Seventeenth International Cultural Certificate Festival/ Exhibition of Patents, organized by the General Secretariat of the Holy Hussein Shrine from February 14th to 18th, 2024.

Under the theme "Imam Hussein, peace be upon him... A call to freedom and the secret of victory,"

the event showcased a patent titled:

"Design of a Flexible and Advanced Low-Cost Nanoscale Artificial Heart for Permanent Use"

The patent focused on the design, modeling, analysis, and development of a new generation of artificial hearts produced using three-dimensional printing technology and a variety of medical and nanomaterials. It resulted in the creation of a flexible, low-cost artificial heart, easy to operate, with a size comparable to a natural heart for all ages, low energy consumption, and high durability and reliability for permanent heart replacement, unlike current artificial hearts that operate for a limited period.

The patent garnered interest from experts, officials, and guests from various countries. Media outlets focused on it, and several television interviews were conducted to highlight the vision and goals of the Biomedical Engineering Department and the potential application of the patent for community service.
